The soldiers are bound by national laws, the Geneva Conventions and the code of military conduct, just like other nations. However, the US weekly Newsweek claimed the Pentagon is running a Secret Army of 60,000 to challenge the government, military and international laws.

The number of soldiers in this army can also exceed 60,000. The US Congress has not investigated this Secret Army of the Pentagon. Hence, the actual number of soldiers in the army is not yet known, said the weekly. These also include US national defence department agents, Special Forces personnel, contractors and civilians. Besides, this secret army includes foreign contractors and civilians as well, claimed the weekly. Each of the soldiers has been assigned a false identity. The soldiers work for 130 private companies associated with the US administration and Pentagon. Their personal information has been kept a secret. Also, the secret army comprises a few cyber fighters.

This Secret Army has been given the freedom to destroy terrorists ranging from Pakistan to West Africa. They can also infiltrate into and take action against Iran and North Korea. For that, the soldiers have been allowed to take action by going to any extent; this has no legal or moral boundaries, published the weekly, citing a senior official. Hence, the cyber fighters play a significant role to conceal the identity of the soldiers. The cyber fighters also create influence on social media and participate in running a campaign. Furthermore, the cyber warriors are connected to the US national security agency, said the weekly.

This Secret Army is utilised for action not just against terrorists but also against Russia and China, nations competing against the United States. The Pentagon cited the instance of its government official Ryan Fogle, planted in the Russian embassy. In 2013, the Russian intelligence agency had even arrested Ryan Fogle. Fogle had prepared to deploy as a double agent for the Pentagon. However, Russia set a trap and arrested him, reported the weekly.
