Prime Minister Modi will visit Japan, Papua New Guinea and Australia between May 19 and 24. The invitation received by the Prime Minister of India for the G7 summit in Japan has drawn attention. The host countries of G7 have been continuously inviting India to this meeting. Hence, some analysts in Pakistan claimed that India seemed to be an undeclared member of the G7. These Pakistani analysts say that this underlines the growing importance of India at the international level.

US President Biden will also participate in the G7 meeting in Japan. Later, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the QUAD meeting in Australia. A bilateral meeting may happen between Prime Minister Modi and President Biden. The Ministry of External Affairs of India has claimed that in this visit of the Prime Minister to Japan and Australia, it expects in-depth discussions on the Indo-Pacific and other important issues with the leaders of important countries.

Meanwhile, there have been indications that preparations have started for Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the US next month. Vedant Patel, the Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State, highlighted that cooperation with India was very important for the US. Patel said that PM Modi’s visit would discuss the open and free Indo-Pacific region and strengthen the trade and security partnership between the two countries.

The Biden administration has repeatedly presented to the world the importance of US cooperation with India. However, since President Biden came to power, there has not been much progress in the frontline of collaboration between the two countries. India had refused to take a stand against Russia as per the demands of the US in the Ukraine conflict. The US took India’s neutrality as opposition. In addition to accepting Russia’s cheap fuel alternative, India started buying huge amounts from Russia. There have been talks that the US was resentful about it. However, the Biden administration did not risk hurting India by openly expressing this displeasure. On the contrary, the Biden administration has consistently communicated interest in increasing cooperation with India.
