Pakistan to remain in the grey list of FATF

Brussels/ Washington: The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has decided to permanently grey list Pakistan. FATF has declared this decision by accusing Pakistan of not making efforts to cease the capital supply that would fuel the functionality of terrorist outfits, Lashkar-E-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad. At the same time, the US Congress, in its report, has accused that Pakistan harbours terrorists.

FATF had given a timeline to Pakistan to cease the supply of funds to terrorists. However, Pakistan could not deliver the appeal as expected. Moreover, the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad continue the transactions smoothly with Pakistan. Thus, FATF drew attention to this fact and declared to grey list Pakistan forever. So, Pakistan’s efforts to emerge out of this list has turned futile. This is a great shock to Pakistan, who is depended on the foreign investments and international financial institutions to pull it out of debt.

Meanwhile, the US Foreign State Department has fired salvos of criticism on Pakistan in its annual report. Even though Pakistan has taken steps towards stopping the terrorist outfits, the country, however, still harbours terrorism, claimed the report.

The decision of FATF and the US foreign state department’s report- Pakistan faced a knock by these two on the same day. Besides, Pakistan direly needs the help of the United States to pull it out of the miserable economic status. However, the nation, which thoroughly propagates terrorism, does not stand a chance of receiving help at least for some time in the future.
