Pakistan has learnt its lesson from the three wars with India- PM Shehbaz Sharif

Islamabad: Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, while speaking to middle eastern news media, proposed to open dialogue with India and said they had learned a lesson from the outcome of three wars with India. This statement created quite a stir. Analysts from India are questioning if this admission of regret is an individual opinion or an official stance of the Pakistani government. Analysts feel that since Pakistan is in a state of turmoil, the wisdom exhibited now makes no sense as clearly, Pakistan has been left with no choice but to improve relations and seek assistance from India. Analysts pointed out that given the historic precedence, Pakistan cannot be trusted at any cost.

Pakistan has learnt its lesson from the three wars with India- PM Shehbaz SharifCabinet ministers of Pakistan have started to express fears of the disintegration of Pakistan. The economic condition is precarious, with acute food shortage, rampant inflation, rising unemployment and residual foreign reserves to last only for a few days of imports. Pakistan expected help from the middle eastern countries and from the International monetary fund supported by the US. However, any interim help is not going to solve Pakistan’s problems. In such a dismal state of the country, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated in an interview to Al Arabia has admitted that Pakistan has learnt its lesson from the war against India in anticipation of opening dialogue with India. However, PM Shehbaz Sharif could not answer why it took Pakistan decades to realise this.

Through the latest interview, PM Shahbaz Sharif presented a proposal to the Prime Minister of India for discussions with Kashmir to be included in the agenda. Kashmir was deliberately mentioned to avoid sharp criticism from within Pakistan for proposing dialogue with India. However, PM Shehbaz Sharif also showed flexibility to keep discussion on Kashmir aside for the time being. Intending to appease the UAE, PM Shehbaz Sharif also proposed that UAE can mediate talks between India and Pakistan. Indian media is using the statement of Pakistani Prime Minister to broadcast Pakistan’s submission to India. However, former military and strategic analysts are stating that the recent comments of the Pakistani Prime Minister do not make any sense as Pakistan currently has no other option. Some military analysts are questioning PM Shehbaz Sharif’s ability to control its military and terrorist outfits while he makes an emotional appeal to India.

Former military officers believe Pakistan may want to seek help to bail out of the terrible situation. However, Pakistan will return to its anti-India agenda when the situation improves. Pakistan has always backstabbed whenever India has helped. Such a country cannot be trusted. Also, while PM Shehbaz Sharif is proposing talks, foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto is speaking in unparliamentary language about the Indian leadership.

With the statements, the history between India and Pakistan is being revisited. Indians are posting about recent comments made by Pakistani leaders and military officials. Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, once said they would survive by eating grass to obtain a nuclear bomb. Social media is taunting that the wish of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has come true. Other comments made by former military officials to engage in war with India for a thousand years are being posted on social media.
