nigeria, victory, terrorist, boko haram‘We have succeeded in defeating the terrorist organisation Boko Haram connected with the IS. We have broken the spine of Boko Haram. The terrorists are on the run and we will chase down each one of them. This time they will have no place to run, ’said Major General Rogers Nicholas claiming a major success for the anti-Boko Haram campaign.

For the last few months, the Nigerian military action was going on in the region known as ‘Borno State’ in north eastern Nigeria. The main base of Boko Haram, ‘Camp Zaire’ has been captured and ‘Sambisa Forest’ is under the control of the military, claimed the army. Hundreds of terrorists have surrendered and more than 100 civilians were rescued, informed the army officers.

The army, claiming of complete victory over Boko Haram, clarified that the action against terrorists will continue. Boko Haram is present even in Cameroon and it is believed that it has bases along the borders of both the countries. Therefore, the Cameroon and Nigerian army has started a joint operation and are currently concentrating on the terrorists in the border areas.

Within hours of the Nigerian army claims, Boko Haram carried out attacks on ‘Alau-Kofa’ in the border area as well as in Cameroon, reported the local media. Eight people have lost their lives and there are claims that the terrorists have torched an entire village. This incident puts a question mark on the military claim of victory over Boko Haram. Even in the years 2015 and 2016, Nigeria had had claimed victory over Boko Haram.

Abubakar Shekau is the current commander of Boko Haram which was formed in 2002 and three years ago it had announced its affiliation with the IS. This organisation is also known as the “IS in West Africa’. There have been more than 20 thousand deaths in the attacks by this organisation active in Chad, Niger along with Nigeria and Cameroon.
