Mysterious leak in Nord Stream may be sabotage

Moscow: A case of natural gas leakage from the Nord Stream pipeline built by Russia and European countries has come to light. The leak, even when the gas supply from these pipelines was shut off, added to the mystery of the incident. Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that the leak could be sabotage.

On Monday, the first incident of leakage in the Nord Stream 2 oil pipeline was discovered in the marine region near Bornholm Island, part of Denmark. Danish authorities then ordered ships not to enter a five-nautical mile zone in this maritime region. Then on Tuesday, cases of leakage in the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in the Swedish maritime region came to light. Swedish agencies confirmed that Nord Stream 1 had leaked at two places.

Nord Stream 1 is the main gas pipeline from Russia to Europe. But the supply from this gas pipeline has been stopped for the last few weeks. Russia has taken an aggressive stance that it will start supply only if the European countries lift the sanctions. Although the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is ready, the supply has not started because the new German government has denied permission. The leakage incident has created a mystery even when the gas supply is off.

The Russian spokesperson has claimed that this could be an act of sabotage. German media have also predicted the possibility of sabotage. It is said that due to the leakage in the gas pipeline, the movement of ships in the Baltic Sea area has been disrupted and the European countries may be hit.
