Mexican security agencies declare a war against ‘Drug Cartels’, 14 killed 6 injured

Third World WarMexico City: A fierce conflict has erupted between the security agencies and the Drug Cartels, in a Mexican city, only a few kilometres from the US border. 14 people were killed and 6 were injured, in the attack launched by the Drug Cartels in the Coahuila province. Many people went missing during the attack and harbour fear of being kidnaped. This is the first conflict, since US President Donald Trump designated the Drug Cartels as terrorist organisations.

Members of the Drug Cartel, known as the C.D.N., entered the Coahuila province from Tamaulipas province. The members of the cartels started indiscriminate firing in the Villa Union area, which houses all the main government offices. The local police retaliated strongly to the firing. 10 members of the cartel were killed in the encounter and a few were injured. Four policemen were killed and six were injured in the encounter.

Fears have been expressed that they were kidnaped by the Drug Cartels. The police seized the cars and weapons used by the Cartel members in the conflict. Miguel Angel Riquelme, the Governor of the Coahuila province, asserted that a strong action was taken by the police against the cartel and henceforth no cartels will intrude into the province from other provinces.

The gangs dealing in narcotics have tremendous influence in Mexico. There are 10 main cartels in Mexico and leaders of more than five gangs have been captured or killed. But despite such actions, the spate of violence in Mexico has not reduced and the violence erupted on Saturday also was a part of the same.

As per recent information, Mexico is being severely hit by the Drug Cartel violence. More than a whopping 29,000 people have been killed in this violence. The number of violent incidents reported in the first 10 months of 2019 is so high and is nothing less ‘Narco Terrorism’, is the warning issued by Mexican officials.

On the other hand, the United States, an immediate neighbour of Mexico, also has taken an aggressive stand in the matter. The Drug Cartels had perpetrated killing of an American family in the beginning of November. Infuriated by this killing, President Trump had referred to these Drug Cartels as monsters and had made an insistent demand that the Mexican government should declare a war against these cartels and had assured complete cooperation for it.
