Metro services restart across country, except in Maharashtra; stringent rules for commuters

New Delhi: Metro rail services have been started under ‘Unlock 4’, after a rest of five months. Metro services have commenced in Bengaluru, Chennai, Noida, Lucknow and Hyderabad, except Maharashtra. While allowing the starting of metro services, the government has instructed the metro administrations to impose security rules on the commuters strictly.

A few days ago, the government issued guidelines for starting metro services. As per these guidelines, the commuters have to be wearing masks while entering the station, during travel and till leaving the station. Arogya Setu app has been made mandatory for commuters. Thermal scanning and hand sanitisation are compulsory for every passenger while entering the station. People with signs of Corona have been banned from travelling. People showing signs of Coronavirus infection will be sent to the nearest medical facility.   

The commuters will have to follow social distancing norms during travel. Stickers saying ‘Do not sit here’ have been placed on the middle seats of the benches. The train halt at the stations has been increased by 10 seconds. People entering the station without a mask will be fined Rs 500. To prevent spread on the stations, issuing tokens for travel has been stopped and only smartcard holders will be allowed to travel.  

Metro will operate on the Yellow Line in Delhi, only for a few hours on Monday and Tuesday. There are 37 stations on this 49-kilometre route. Metro trains will run between 7 am to 11 am and 4 pm and 8 pm. Noida Metro Rail Corporation has started metro services on the Aqua line route. This route connects Noida to Greater Noida. Trains will run on this route between 7 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 9 pm.  

Metro services have been started even in Chennai from Monday. Metro will run on the Purple Line route in Bengaluru from today, and the Green Line route will become operational from 9th September. The metro administration in Bengaluru has limited the number of passengers to 400 per train. In the first stage, the metro has been started at Hyderabad in Telangana, on the Red Line, between LB Nagar and Miyapur route.
