26/11 mastermind Makki declared an international terrorist – India welcomes UN Security Council’s action

United Nations: Abdul Rehman Makki, one of the masterminds of the 26/11 terror attacks, has been declared an international terrorist by the United Nations Security Council. It is claimed to be India’s biggest victory in the war against terrorism. Until now, China had put forward technical reasons to declare Makki as an international terrorist. As China withdrew this ‘technical hold’, the Security Council took this action against Abdul Rehman Makki. This sudden change in China’s role comes as a shock to Pakistan. Discussions have started that China has expressed its displeasure with Pakistan in this way and this has shocked Pakistan.

26/11 mastermind Makki declared an international terrorist – India welcomes UN Security Council's actionAbdul Rehman Makki is a relative and close associate of Hafiz Saeed, founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and leader of Jamaat-ul-Dawa. Makki played an important role in the 26/11 attacks. Thus, India repeatedly demanded Pakistan to take strict action against him. Pakistan dismissed India’s demand and declared that India had no evidence against Makki. India raised this issue in the Security Council and called for action against Makki and other terrorists. China blocked the Security Council’s proposal to declare Makki an international terrorist. China had blocked the Security Council’s action against Makki and other Pakistani terrorists by citing technical reasons.

China, which blocked the proposed action on maize in June 2022, has now withdrawn its objection. This action on maize could not be done only because of China’s objection. Therefore, after this decision of China, the Security Council declared Makki an international terrorist. This can cause Makki’s wealth and assets to freeze and restrict his travel. More importantly, this has exposed the world to the fact that there is another international terrorist in Pakistan. At the same time, Pakistan’s differences with China have become public because of this, and in the future, Pakistan may face some more such shocks from China. Relations between Pakistan and China have been strained due to many reasons. Pakistan has complained that China is not providing enough assistance to Pakistan as it faces an economic crisis.

A few days ago, the Pakistani embassy in China warned against the oppression of Uyghur Muslims in China through its account on social media. Pakistan summed up the matter by saying that its embassy’s account was hacked some time ago. But China seems to have taken it seriously. At the same time, China is complaining that the new government of Pakistan has joined hands with the US and pushed the ‘China Pakistan Economic Corridor-CPEC’ project.

China says that Pakistan is doing so on the instructions of the United States. China also accused Pakistan of not doing enough to protect the Chinese citizens working on this project. On this, China had given a strict understanding to Pakistan. Due to this tension between the two countries, China, which has been protecting ‘Makki’ till now, has changed its policy and shocked Pakistan. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, has welcomed this and said India would pursue strict action against terrorists in the future.
