Kisan Rail from South India flagged-off

New Delhi: Following an overwhelming response for the first Kisan Rail, a second Kisan Rail has been started between Anantpur and Adarsh Nagar, in Delhi. This is first Kisan Rail originating from South India and this train was flagged off, carrying 322 Metric Tonnes of fruits. Union Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy flagged off the train via videoconferencing.

Kisan Rail flags-off in South IndiaTomar said, ‘There is a need for excellent distribution and return, for the agricultural Produce. Kisan Rail will reach the farmers produce from one end of the country to the other. More than 200,000 hectares of land is used for fruit and vegetable farming, in Anantpur and the Kisan Rail will certainly prove beneficial for the farmers from this region. Kisan Udan services also will be started soon.’

The Anantpur-Delhi Kisan train carried 322 tonnes of goods comprising of Tomato, Banana, Oranges, Papaya, Watermelons and Mangoes. The first Kisan Rail originating from the South will complete the 2,150 kilometres journey in 40 hours. There are 14 parcel vans in the Kisan Rail Rake. Out of these 4 vans are for Nagpur and ten vans are for Adarsh Nagar. Anantpur is the fruit bowl of Andhra Pradesh.

Kisan Rail flags-off in South India58 metric tonnes of fruits and 80% of the vegetable production, from the district, is sold in markets outside the state, like Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The fruits and vegetables produced in the Anantpur district are majorly transported out of the state. Till date, all this was transported by road. But now with the starting of Kisan Rail, confidence is being expressed that this will help the farmers and traders to reach their materials to all the parts of the country in a safe, profitable and fast way.

The government has set the target to double the income in the hands of the farmer. Kisan rails will make a major contribution in achieving the target. Before this, weekly Kisan rail service was started between Deolali in Maharashtra and Danapur in Bihar. Given the response, the train service was made twice a week. Now the starting of this second Kisan Rail will benefit the farmers further.
