Phnom Penh: On Thursday, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Cambodia against the background of the visit of Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan and the aggressive Chinese activities. The meeting of ‘ASEAN’ is currently being held in Cambodia. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that the two leaders discussed the Indo-Pacific tension and the events in Ukraine against the background of this meeting. Indian External Affairs Minister said that a meeting of External Affairs Ministers of India and ASEAN was also held on Thursday, in which cyber security, terrorism, Coronavirus, maritime traffic rules and the situation in Myanmar were discussed.

The issue of China-Taiwan tension was at the forefront of the discussion between the Foreign Ministers. The QUAD organization was established between India, America, Japan and Australia. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar made an eye-catching remark that many developments have started worldwide since then and informed him that he had discussed these developments with the US Secretary of State.

The US Secretary of State pointed out that India and the United States have a consensus on the security and freedom of the Indo-Pacific region. US Secretary of State Blinken has informed that he had a discussion with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on issues related to this. Meanwhile, US Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi has been praised worldwide for her direct response to provocative Chinese actions by visiting Taiwan. Pelosi particularly asserted during her visit to Taiwan that the conflict between Taiwan and China is a conflict between democracy and dictatorship. However, criticism has started that the position taken by Pelosi is not getting a proper response from the Biden administration.

After President Biden took office, Chinese activities in the Indo-Pacific region greatly increased. The criticism that the Biden administration has completely failed to prevent these activities comes from within the United States. US leaders and strategic analysts are expressing concerns that China has started preparations to take over Taiwan due to the weak policies of the Biden administration and that China will take military action against Taiwan at any moment. Even after Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, the Biden administration distanced itself from her statements. The Biden administration had announced that the White House did not agree with her statements.
