The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is in a state of flare-up

If the international community does not act on time, it will be difficult to gain control of this conflict in terms of economic, political and security, warned Wennesland. Moreover, Wennesland claimed that the stalled peace talks between Israel and Palestine were the chief reason behind the increasing violence.

The city of Jerusalem was shaken by twin bombings last week. A 15-year-old boy was among the two Israelis killed in the blast. The attacks were claimed to have been carried out by radicals influenced by Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the West Bank. Thereupon, the Israeli security forces retaliated to the action in the West Bank. After this explosion, the issue of attacks on Israelis by Palestinians in Israel and the West Bank was raised.

The UN has claimed that 30 people have been killed in Palestinian attacks in Israel and the West Bank this year. Israeli police launched an anti-terror campaign in the West Bank a few months ago. Therein, 130 Palestinians were killed, and more than 2,000 were detained. The action taken by Israel in the West Bank had worldwide reactions. UN Special Envoy for Palestine Tor Wennesland expressed concern over the increased attacks on Israel and the Palestinians. Wennesland pointed out that the attacks in Israel and the West Bank have surfaced serious issues. Besides, he claims that the use of weapons has increased in the West Bank, and attacks on refugees have also increased. The UN ambassador warned that attacks on civilians would not be tolerated in these types of incidents.

The conflict has increased the threat to stability and security, which does not prove good for anyone, Wennesland said. Simultaneously, the rapidly growing population in Gaza Strip and the West Bank is also a cause for concern, claimed Ambassador Wennesland. The extent to which the population of Gaza and the West Bank will continue to grow, it will become more difficult to manage the conflict, Wennesland said.

In such a scenario, Benjamin Netanyahu’s new government in Israel will try to start stalled peace talks with the Palestinians, Wennesland expressed his belief. At the same time, Wennesland appealed that the international community should also pay timely attention to solving this conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Otherwise, it will not be possible to control the Israel-Palestine conflict in terms of economic, political and security in the coming times, Wennesland warned.
