If Israeli borders are attacked, due action will be taken action against Assad

Washington: The United States issued a warning to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, criticising the activities of the Syrian army near the Israeli border. ‘If the Assad regime carries out attacks near the Israeli border violating the ceasefire, the United States will also retaliate appropriately,’ threatened the United States Department of State.

Since the last few days, the Syrian army is distributing leaflets in the Daraa area, located in south west Syria. In these leaflets, the Syrian government has issued an ultimatum to the Syrian rebels in the Daraa region to either surrender or to face a violent offensive. Last year the Syrian army and the rebels in Daraa had agreed on a ceasefire. The Daraa region was quiet for last few months, after this ceasefire brought about by the mediation of the United States and Russia.

But since the last few days, reports of the Syrian soldiers, tanks and artillery rounding-up Daraa, are being published in the Syrian media. The reports say that the Syrian army is preparing to launch an attack on Daraa. The Israeli and Jordanian borders are close from to this city. Therefore, the United States has expressed concern that the Syrian military action in this city will endanger the borders of these US allies.

Heather Nauert, US Department of State Spokesperson issued a stern warning objecting to the activities of the Syrian army near Daraa. ‘Russia and Jordan had also guaranteed the ceasefire in Daraa along with the United States. If President Assad’s army attacks Daraa near the Israeli border violating the ceasefire, the United States will retaliate appropriately as a guarantor of this ceasefire, threatened Nauert.

The US State Department spokesperson fired a salvo at Russia and Iran along with the Assad regime. ‘The Assad regime is violating the self-imposed ceasefire because of the support it is getting from Russia and Iran. The violation of ceasefire in Eastern Ghouta was also a part of the same plan,’ Nauert lashed out at Iran and Russia by stating this. At the same time, Nauert warned Russia that if it does not use its political and military strength to stop the Assad regime in Syria in time, the situation can worsen.

Since the last few weeks, Syria has carried out severe attacks in Eastern Ghouta and Deir ez-Zor regions, violating the ceasefire. It was revealed that the Syrian army had used chemical weapons in one of the attacks in April at Douma, Eastern Ghouta. More than 60 people had been killed in the chemical attack carried out to finish the rebels. Following this, the United States had carried out strong air attacks on the Syrian air bases.

Similarly, the Syrian army and the Russian mercenaries had attacked Deir ez-Zor, in the month of February violating the ceasefire. But more than 250 Syrian and Russian soldiers had been killed in the retaliation by the US army.

Against this backdrop of the Syrian military preparations for an attack on Daraa, the United States’ warning is being considered as serious.
