Israeli and US companies to develop Laser Dome

Jerusalem: – Two months ago, Hamas terrorists from Gaza launched more than 4,000 rocket attacks on Israel. The Israeli military says 90% of the rocket attacks have been successfully repelled with the help of Iron Dome, the air defence system. So, Israel and the United States have teamed up to develop a ‘Laser Dome’; it will be more penetrating and accurate than the Iron Dome. The information was revealed by a US company that is a leader in arms manufacturing.

Currently, the Israeli defence forces are equipped with four indigenous air defence systems, Arrow-2, Arrow-3, David’s Sling and Iron Dome. The Israeli army also has an ‘Iron Beam’ laser system, developed by Raphael Advanced Defence Systems. Iron Beam can be used to penetrate short-range rockets, mortar bomb attacks like the Iron Dome, and the system is said to be even more pervasive than the Iron Dome.

But an Israeli and US companies are developing a new advanced laser air defence system that is more pervasive, accurate and successful than the Iron Beam. Last week, leading companies Raphael of Israel and Lockheed Martin of the United States reached an agreement regarding this. Like the Iron Dome, the laser air defence system will be used from the ground, the US company said in a statement.

By 2024, the Israeli Defence Forces will be equipped with this new advanced laser air defence system. This will further strengthen the capabilities of Israel’s air defence system. The system will then be sold to the US military, Lockheed Martin said. Unlike Israel, US security is not currently threatened by short-range rockets or mortars from neighbouring countries.

Meanwhile, in the last few weeks, Israel has rocked the international community with its advanced military technology. During the 11-day conflict in the Gaza Strip, Israel got known for using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drone swarms. Israel became the first country to use this technology in conflict. A few weeks ago, Israel targeted and destroyed drones with a laser from a passenger plane. Earlier, the United States had tested a military and naval versions laser. But Israel had gone one step further and demonstrated its capability in aerial laser warfare by pervasive drones from aircraft.
