Iran army colonel killed in Syria bombing – Iran blames and warns Israel

Tehran/Damascus: Colonel Davoud Jafari, a senior military officer of the Iranian army, was killed in a bomb blast near the Syrian capital Damascus. The Revolutionary Guards of Iran gave this information on their website. Also, Iran threatened that Israel, who they blamed for this attack, would have to pay a heavy price. Israel, which has remained silent on the attacks in Syria, has not responded. But Iran has lost one of its top officials in the blast.

Last week, an attack in Hama and Homs provinces destroyed Iran’s weapons warehouses. A human rights organisation in Syria had claimed that the terrorists of an Iran-linked organisation were killed. The Assad regime in Syria blames Israel for the attacks. Iran had not threatened Israel for these attacks.  

But a roadside explosion in an area near the Syrian capital Damascus on Monday killed a senior officer, Colonel Davoud Jafari. Colonel Jafari, a senior officer of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, played an advisory role in the campaign in Syria. colonelAt the same time, Colonel Jafari was looking after the production of missiles in the Aerospace Department of the Revolutionary Guards. Colonel Jafari favoured Iran’s supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Therefore, the killing of Colonel Jafari in this attack is claimed to have caused a great shock to Iran.  

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has blamed Israel for the killing of its official. Israel has also committed a serious crime by killing Colonel Jafari. The Revolutionary Guards threatened that Israel would have to pay a heavy price. 

colonelThis information was given by a website affiliated with the army in Iran. Israeli media have been claiming that Iran could use Syria to launch drone attacks on Israel or attack Israeli company ships travelling through the Persian Gulf.

Meanwhile, civil war has raged in Syria for the past 11 years. Israel had warned that Iran and Iran-affiliated terrorist organisations would use Syria for anti-Israel activities under cover of this conflict. Israel appealed to Russia to stop these Iranian activities in Syria. Even after this, the activities of Iran and Iran-affiliated terrorist organisations in Syria became dangerous for Israel’s security, and Israel threatened to invade Syria directly and launch attacks. Since then, Israel is claimed to have launched more than 400 strikes in Syria. But Israel has not officially claimed responsibility for these attacks.
