Tehran: Iran has accused that Israel was behind the explosion on an Iranian freight ship in the Mediterranean Sea marine sector. An official from the Iranian inquiry committee said that taking into account the geographical location of the incident, it is very likely that Israel has carried out this attack. Whereas, Iran had not uttered a single word regarding the attacks till two days ago. But Iran started speaking after a report in a US newspaper; the country started accusing Israel for it. Israeli media are pointing to this change. On Wednesday, there was a fire on an Iranian freight ship sailing through the Mediterranean Sea. There was an explosion in one of the containers on the Shahr-E-Kord ship and the fire spread. No casualties have been reported in the fire. But the spokesman of the company, who owns the ship, accused that this was a terrorist attack. Iran dispatched a unit to investigate and inquire regarding the concerned ship following the incident. As per the information given by one of the members of this unit, to an Iranian news agency, the explosion was caused due to an airstrike.
The concerned official accused that considering the geographical location of the attack, Israel is responsible for the terrorist attack.’ the Iranian news channels highlighted the concerned official’s accusation.
Spokesman of the Iranian foreign ministry, Saeed Khatibzadeh, criticised that the Iranian ship’s attack violated international regulations. Khatibzadeh added that action would be taken against those responsible for the attack. Last month, there was a suspicious explosion on the Israeli freight ship Helios Ray in the Gulf of Oman. Israel had accused that Iran was responsible for the attack. International media are claiming that Israel avenged the attack on Helios Ray by carrying out this attack. But Israel has dismissed the accusations.
Meanwhile, leading Arab media drew the international community’s attention to these Iranian claims accusing Israel. On Wednesday, there was a fire on an Iranian ship. Iran avoided speaking about the incident. But a leading newspaper in the United States carried a report saying that Israel has launched 12 attacks on Iranian ships since 2019. Thereafter, Iran started accusing Israel of attacking its ship in the Mediterranean Sea. Israeli media are retorting that this is a surprising coincidence.
