Number of internet connections in the country reaches 750 million

New Delhi: The number of internet connections in the country has reached 750 million. This information was announced by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This number has been achieved in 25 years, from the initiation of internet services in India. This positive change has become possible because of the Digital India Campaign. TRAI informed that the number of internet connections has doubled in the last four years.

Number of internet connections in the country reaches 750 millionIn India, the internet service was opened for the general public on 15th August 1995. In 2015, the Digital India Campaign was started. Under this campaign, the internet network is being built in the country. In 2016, the number of internet connections was 340 million. Within two years, in 2018, it reached 500 million. TRAI informed that by August 2020, the number of internet connections reached 750 million.

The number of internet connections has increased significantly in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Gujarat. It has been revealed that the internet connections have been bought for mobile phones and dongles. Out of the 750 million, 50 million are narrowband, whereas 692 million internet connections have been bought for broadband.
