Scientists from India and US jointly research on Coronavirus

New Delhi: – Research is being conducted on various levels, to control the Coronavirus pandemic. Indian and US scientists will be embarking on joint research in Coronavirus related technologies, like preliminary diagnostic tests, antiviral therapy, Drug repurposing, ventilator research and sensors identifying signs of Coronavirus. The science and technology ministry informed that 11 groups of scientists, from both the countries, have been formed for this purpose.

The research will be supported through the medium of ‘US-India Science and Technology Endowment Fund’ (USISTEF). USISTEF had been formed in April following an agreement between the United States and the Indian Science and technology ministry. As per this, 11 groups of scientists have been formed and the work will start soon.  

Ashutosh Sharma, the secretary with the Science and Technology department of the Science and Technology ministry, informed that researchers from both the countries would carry out detailed research on the Coronavirus pandemic and the treatments given for the disease. Jonathan Margolis Jonathan Margolis, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Science, Space, and Health, in the US department of state, said that India and the United States would make a vital contribution in the fight against Coronavirus.   

India and the United States are the worst hit by the Coronavirus pandemic. A huge number of patients are being reported from India. Against this background, both these countries are undertaking joint research. India has already established cooperation with some other countries. India has undertaken research regarding Corona with Israel and Japan. India is also developing vaccines for Coronavirus in collaboration with various companies and institutions.
