India’s OFB to supply ammunition to US

New Delhi: – The Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) of the Indian government has received the biggest order till date, and OFB will be supplying ammunition to the United States. OFB, the oldest defence manufacturing organisation in India, will be exporting 5.56X45 mm NATO M-193 Ball Bullets to the United States.

india-OFBCurrently, 41 factories, 13 development centres and nine educational institutions are operational under the OFB. The necessary ammunition for the United States will be manufactured at the Ordnance Factory at Varangaon in Maharashtra. Gagan Chaturvedi, the Deputy Director-General of OFB, said while talking to a news agency, that the ammunition will be supplied to the United States in the current financial year. The OFB is giving ammunition to foreign countries and is completing the assignments in the allotted time period.  

The ammunition will be provided for the rifles used by the US Army, Navy and Air Force. The 5.56X45 mm NATO M-193 Ball Bullets used in the rifles are used even by the armies of NATO-linked countries like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Australia too, along with the United States.   

Meanwhile, efforts are being made to corporatise the OFB, and a committee has been formed under the leadership of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The current turnover of the OFB is Rs 120 billion, and it is expected that the turnover will reach Rs 300 billion in the next four years, after corporatisation.
