New Delhi: The government has ordered Indian Security Forces deployed along the border after the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and security forces involved in counter-terrorism operations to be trained to deal with a Taliban-like threat. Twenty years ago, during the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, there was an increase in terrorist activities even in India. Terrorist groups in Jammu and Kashmir gained strength during the Taliban regime. Similar terrorist organizations had also emerged in neighbouring Bangladesh. These organizations had also carried out operations in India. Therefore, even defence experts are repeatedly warning about this threat. Against this backdrop, a few days ago, the government ordered the security forces to be ready to face this threat.

Taliban’s occupation of Afghanistan is expected to affect the geopolitical situation in South and Central Asia, with fears of severe repercussions on the Indian border and inland territory. The security forces now need to be trained to deal with this situation. They need to come up with new tactics, strategies. There is also a need to train security personnel to deal with threats like the Taliban. Therefore, the central security agencies have instructed the security forces to identify the threats and train their personnel.

It will be a major challenge to prevent the infiltration of foreign terrorists through India‘s western border with Pakistan and its eastern border. The border guarding team and the Border Security Force (BSF) are responsible for security along both the western and the northern borders. The central government has also said that police forces involved in counter-terrorism operations should be trained to meet the challenges posed by the changing situation. According to a senior official, the instructions to that effect have already been issued a few days ago. After that, the training program of BSF, SSB, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police is being updated in response to the changing situation on the border. Information about the Taliban and its fighting methods is also being included in the curriculum being developed for these soldiers. Officers of all ranks of the Central Security Forces will be trained and webinars are also being organized for this purpose, the official said.
