Srinagar: The Indian military foiled a Pakistani attempt to smuggle arms through Kishanganga River in the Keran sector. Four AK-47 rifles, eight magazines and 240 live cartridges of the AK rifles were seized during the action taken by the Indian security forces. At the same time, two terrorists were killed in an encounter with the security forces in the Kulgam district. The officials said that one M-4 rifle and a pistol were seized from the location.

Thereafter, the army and the police started a joint operation. At around 10 in the morning, they found two-three terrorists trying to send something through tubes, tied to ropes. In an immediate action, the soldiers of the security forces confiscated the arms haul. The area has been cordoned off, and a search operation has been launched.

In the past, the BSF had foiled a Pakistani attempt to smuggle narcotics using tubes and ropes. The alertness of the security forces has made it extremely difficult for Pakistan to reach arms and ammunition to the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, Pakistani terrorist organisations are trying out different routes to smuggle arms into India. Smuggling arms using drones is being repeatedly attempted. The arms are also being smuggled in tubes through the river routes from across the border.

During the action taken at that time, six AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds, 65 rounds of the Chinese pistols, hand grenades, two MTR Cordex, 15 detonators, a black radio, GPS and some other materials had been seized.

Meanwhile, the security forces were tipped off that terrorists are hiding in the Chingam area of the Kulgam district. The entire area was cordoned off, and a search operation was launched. The security forces succeeded in killing two terrorists in the encounter that ensued. After that, an extensive combing operation has been launched. As per the information received from the intelligence sources, there are nearly 250-300 terrorists at the launchpads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. The terrorists are making repeated infiltration attempts. But the security forces are foiling their attempts.
