India hands over 50 metric tonnes of food grains to Djibouti

New Delhi: – On Wednesday, India handed over 50 metric tonnes of food grains to Djibouti. Under the Mission Sagar-2, India is supplying humanitarian aid to the African countries that are severely hit by the Coronavirus pandemic and other natural calamities. Under the scheme, India has already provided assistance to the African countries, Sudan and Eritrea.

In October, the Indian warship, INS Airavat, visited the African countries carrying food grains. INS Airavat has reached the Djibouti port with the stock of food grain, after Sudan and Eritrea. The food grain stock was handed over to Djibouti on Wednesday. At this time, Indian Ambassador to Djibouti, Ashok Kumar, and Commander Prasanna Kumar were present. INS Airavat will leave for Kenya from there.   

Under Mission Sagar-2, India is increasing its cooperation with the neighbours and the countries from the Indian Ocean region. The supply of food grains to the African countries is a part of the same policy. India is providing aid to the African countries through this medium. Along with this, cooperation between India and the African countries is increasing. While the Chinese influence is increasing on the African countries, and with China having a base in Djibouti, the presence of an Indian warship in that the port is attracting the attention of the analysts.  

Meanwhile, during the Coronavirus crisis, India, under Mission Sagar, supplied 580 metric tonnes of food grain and medical supplies to the African countries. That time, Indian warship INS Kesari had visited the countries in the Indian Ocean region.
