India and France join hands against terrorismBoth the delegations concurred that the terrorists should not have any safe havens and stopping the funding of terrorists is extremely important. There were discussions regarding the use of the internet by the terrorist groups and essential measures to curtail the influence of extremists, during the meeting. India and France will exchange sensitive information regarding terrorism regularly. Both countries will be cooperating to improve each other’s capabilities for actions against terrorism. The meeting concurred on the use of the law against terrorists and using each other’s experiences to stop the spread of terrorism and extremism.

India and France also agreed on the more effective use of United Nations and international organisations like the Financial Action Task Force against terrorism. The malicious tendencies in south Asia, of exporting terrorism into other countries came under severe criticism during the meeting. The issue of the terrorists declared by the international community was on the anvil, during the Meeting. It is exposed that Pakistan, involved in all these activities, was being targeted in the meeting without naming it.

The Indian stand on terrorism started gaining support, on the international level, after the western countries started being hit by terror attacks. Before that, almost all the countries had a very soft stand against the proxy war being played by Pakistan, in Kashmir, using terrorists. But now the situation has changed and most of the countries have realised the threat of terrorism to international peace. Excepting China, who has been an ardent supporter of Pakistan, other countries have supported harsh actions against terrorists, increasing the pressure on Pakistan.

Only a few days ago, French President Emmanuel Macron had indicated that the country faced a major threat from extremism and had said that the French conflict against terrorism has started. Security agencies in the European countries have repeatedly warned regarding the threat of terror attacks in the European countries. Against this background, the Indian demand for cooperation on the international level, against terrorism, is garnering more and more support. More importantly, countries like France are trying to take advantage of the experience and skill of India, on the front of fighting terrorism, for more than the last three decades. The discussions between the two countries during the New Delhi meeting regarding cooperation freshly underlines the issue.
