The protestors have sent a strong message that said the protests ongoing for more than six months in Hong Kong, would continue with the same intensity in the new year. They stated the demonstrations would not stop unless all the five demands of the protestors were met. ‘Freedom comes at a price, and we are aware of it. We are willing to pay the price no matter what it is,’ the protestors asserted. The demonstrators formed human chains in the busy marketplaces from 31st December evening. Thousands of protestors joined the protests. Many of them refused to welcome the new year.

Some newspapers reported that the Police used tear gas and rubber bullets against the demonstrators. The pro-Chinese Hong Kong administration and the Chinese regime is trying to suppress the reports on the protests, although severe reactions emanated on the international forum. About 40 parliamentarians from 18 countries have written an open letter to the Hong Kong administration, appealing it to find a peaceful solution to the issue. The letter underscores that the administration would have to take the aspirations of the Hong Kongers into consideration.

Calling the situation unfavourable for wishing ‘Happy New Year’, the protestors expressed their anger against China. The protestors have asserted to the pro-Chinese administration and the Chinese regime that the protests would not stop unless all the five demands of the demonstrators were fulfilled. The five demands are the release of all detained protestors, an impartial enquiry ordered into the inhuman police action against the protestors, complete voting rights for the demonstrators and for the protesters not to be considered as rioters. At the same time, the prisoners of Hong Kong must not be extradited to China was another term included in the five demands. The Hong Kong administration and the Chinese government have accepted the last request.

However, no one should be under the misconception that the protests would stop by accepting only one demand out of the five. The protestors reiterated their warning. They asserted they would not stop unless all the five demands were met. Despite the Hong Kong administration detaining 6,500 demonstrators, the intensity of the protests has not reduced. The protestors have succeeded in spreading their message across the globe that the protests in Hong Kong will only heat further in 2020, and they would not relent unless all their demands were met. Therefore, the challenges before China will only increase, and the world is apprehensive towards the move China will make next as it had threatened to crush the demonstrations.
