On Monday morning, the incident took place in the Ural city, about 700 miles from the Russian capital Moscow. Besides, foreign students are also studying at this renowned Perm University. Gunshots were heard in one of the university buildings around 11 a.m. on Monday while the classes were going on. Preliminary investigations revealed that the attacker, identified as Timur Pekmansro, is also a student at the same university.

After eyewitnesses saw the killing of six people in Timur’s shootout, the principal and staff, along with the students, locked the classrooms’ doors from inside. Videos have surfaced wherein some students jump out of the windows of a building to save their lives from the attacker. The university also has students of Indian descent. The Indian embassy announced that all of them are safe and expressed concern over the incident at Perm University.

Russian security officials said there was no political or religious motive behind the attack. But it is claimed that the incident took place due to hatred towards classmates.

Russia is claimed to have stringent rules for the possession of guns. However, concerns have been raised for the Russian authorities after finding a gun with the student. At the same time, this is the second such incident in Russia in the last four months.
