Russia’s Gazprom issued new warning on fuel supply in Europe

Moscow: The Russian fuel company Gazprom accused Ukraine of diverting some fuel supplies to Moldova. The Russian company warned that if Ukraine does not stop fuel theft and Moldova fails to pay the fuel debt, it will cut the fuel supply in the future. Fuel gas supply from Russia to European countries through fuel pipelines in Ukraine has almost halted, and only the fuel pipeline going to Moldova has been working. But now Russia has given indications to control the supply from it.

Ukraine’s neighbouring country Moldova has been heavily dependent on Russian fuel. Although other European countries have been reducing their imports of Russian fuel, Moldova has continued to import Russian fuel as it has no other choice. Agreeing to Russia’s demands, Moldova has paid an advance for fuel for November. However, Gazprom claimed that Moldova was not getting the fuel gas supplied from Russia.

Gazprom accused Ukraine of keeping more than five million cubic meters of fuel gas going to Moldova from Russia. If Ukraine does not stop this fuel theft, the Russian company has warned that it will cut gas supplies to Moldova from November 28. Ukraine has rejected Russia’s accusations and accused Russia of blackmailing it in the wake of rising winter demand.

Russia’s massive missile attacks have destroyed more than half of Ukraine’s electricity supply system. As many as one crore citizens in many cities, including Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, have lost electricity and water supply. A few days ago, DTEK, the leading energy company in Ukraine, advised that Ukrainian citizens should take the option of leaving the country to save electricity in the country. At the same time, the Ukrainian government also requested that the countries assisting Ukraine should urgently supply blankets.

The temperature in various parts of Ukraine has reached nearly zero degrees in the past few days. Besides, snow has begun to gather in many places. In such a situation, the non-availability of electricity and ‘heating system’ has proved to increase Ukrainian people’s challenges further. Against this background, the Russian company’s accusation against Ukraine regarding the theft of fuel gas becomes attention-grabbing. European countries have also been warned to face a harsh winter as the fuel gas supply from Russia has been stopped. Next month, European countries will start implementing a price cap on Russian fuel, and before that, information has come out that European countries have begun buying Russian fuel through other means.
