DRDO develops ‘Bio Suits’ for the Doctors and medical staff  

New Delhi: – The Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a ‘Bio Suit’ for the doctors and nurses working with Coronavirus patients. The DRDO developed this ‘Bio suit’ as the number of Coronavirus cases is rising by the day and there is a shortage of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for protecting the medical staff against Coronavirus.

With the growing number of Coronavirus cases in the country, the demand for PPE is also increasing rapidly. The Suit developed by the DRDO will protect the doctors, nurses and the other medical staff from the Coronavirus infection. In view of the increasing demand for the PPE, DRDO informed that 15,000 suits would be manufactured per day. Currently, 7,000 suits are being manufactured per day.  

A fabric with a special coating has been used in the manufacture of the Bio Suits. The Suit has been developed by a scientist using a special fibre, using their expertise in the textile and nanotechnology sectors. The Suit has satisfied all the necessary criteria during testing. The Defence Ministry informed that the DRDO has given the contract to two companies, to manufacture these suits.  

DRDO has engaged in developing various equipment, for stopping the spread of Coronavirus, ever since the epidemic was reported from the city of Wuhan, in China. DRDO has developed four products to date. They are sanitisers, critical care ventilators, masks and bodysuits.
