Chinese regime hacks social media accounts of Australian PM Scott Morrison

Canberra/Beijing – It has been exposed that the Chinese regime has hacked the social media accounts of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. The political analysts and experts have accused that this is a part of the Chinese censorship and interference. China has distanced itself, saying that this is a dispute between the Prime Minister and the company.

Many Australian leaders, including Prime Minister Scott Morrison, have opened their accounts on the Chinese social media site, We Chat, to connect with the Chinese population in Australia. Information related to the Australian government and the developments in the Australian political circles is posted in Chinese through these accounts. Morrison opened his account on the ‘We Chat’ site in 2019 and has 76,000 followers.

Since June last year, the access of Prime Minister Morrison and his team to their accounts was suddenly withdrawn. Despite repeated complaints, Tencent, the company which owns the We Chat app, did not respond in any way. After that, at the beginning of 2022, Prime Minister Morrison’s account was suddenly restarted in the name of Australian Chinese New Life. The company operating this new account claims to have purchased the account.

But the Australian experts have accused that this is a part of Chinese censorship and political interference. For the last two years, China has been trying to pressurise Australia in every possible way. It is claimed that closing the Australian Prime Minister’s account and running it in a different mane is a part of the same efforts.
