Ottawa/Beijing: A resolution conveying that ‘A genocide is being perpetrated of the Uyghur and Turkish origin Muslims’ was passed in the Canadian Parliament. Canada becomes the second country after the United States to adopt such a tough stand against China. China is fuming due to the Canadian decision. Besides, the Chinese foreign ministry warned that the concerned resolution ignores facts. Meanwhile, British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab demanded that the United Nations send a team to the Xinjiang province in China to inquire regarding the atrocities meted out to the Uyghur people.

The first resolution moved by Parliamentarian Michael D Chang accuses that the Chinese government is perpetrating a genocide of Uyghur Muslims. This has the mention of the resolution passed by the United Nations regarding genocide. At the same time, it also reminds that the United States has accepted the activities against the Uyghurs as genocide. The resolution was passed with 266 votes in favour- a full house.

In the other resolution, demand has been made that if China does not stop the Uyghur genocide, the International Olympics committee should shift the venue of the 2022 Olympics to a different country. The Canadian Parliament informed that this proposal was passed with 230 votes in favour and 28 against. After the Canadian Parliament approved the term ‘Genocide‘ for the atrocities against Uyghurs, demand for sterner action from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau against China is gaining ground in the political circles and the media and social media.

The Chinese foreign ministry claimed that the facts have been twisted in the resolution. Wang Wenbin, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, also claimed to have registered a strongly worded protest against these resolutions. Kong Piu, the Chinese ambassador to Canada, said that there is no genocide in the Xinjiang province. The Chinese ambassador also demanded that Canada stopped interfering in internal Chinese matters.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has also indicated a stern stand against China on the Uyghur issue, following the United States and Canada. British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab raised the issue of actions against the Uyghur Muslims’ issue during the discussions in the Geneva Forum of the United Nations. The British Foreign Minister blamed that inordinate atrocities are being showered on the Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang province and the situation has got out of hand. At the same time, Foreign Minister Raab also demanded that the United Nations urgently despatch a team, under an expert lead, to inquire into the Xinjiang province situation.

The Uyghurs are being arrested under the charges of terrorism and other crimes and military and paramilitary forces have been deployed in the entire province. These agencies have detained more than 1.1 million Uyghurs and have been dumped into the torture camps at various locations.

A shocking revelation has been made that they are made to work as bonded labour in these camps. At the same time, reports have been received that the Chinese agencies are sexually exploiting Uyghur women. The reports published by the thinktanks point a finger directly at Chinese President Xi Jinping as being responsible for this genocide.
