Chinese influence on the US media will prove dangerous, warns US columnist Gordon Chang

Washington – Centenary of the monopolistic Chinese Communist Party was celebrated recently. Renowned US columnist Gordon Chang warned that the publicity given by the US media to this event becomes a cause of major concern. Saying that the effort to glorify the dictatorial Chinese communist regime is extremely dangerous, Gordon Chang blamed that the commercial interests of the US media are behind this. The US law department published information endorsing the claim. The US law department has said in its report that China Daily, a newspaper linked to the Chinese government, has provided funding worth millions of dollars to the US media in the last six months.

The major financial challenge faced by the western media is being exploited by China as an opportunity to increase its influence with huge investments. Therefore, the media in the western world is taking a soft stand against China, which tramples human rights and its population’s aspirations. Saying that there was an effort to glorify the Chinese Communist Party on the occasion of the centenary of the Communist rule in China, Gordan Chang expressed regret over the development.

The US media gave undue importance to the warnings issued by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the adversaries of China. Chang said that instead of presenting correct information regarding the Chinese Communist Party, the US media displayed a distorted picture and accused that the commercial interests of the US media were responsible for this. The report published by the US law department contains information that endorses Chang’s views. The report says that the Chinese communist regime has funded the US newspapers and periodicals to the tune of millions of dollars through China Daily, a newspaper run by the Chinese government. The list of the beneficiaries includes leading newspapers and journals in the United States.

It has also been observed that some of these newspapers and periodicals have been targeting even India in the last few months. These US newspapers tried their best to malign the Indian image with distorted claims that the Indian systems collapsed before the second wave of Coronavirus. These US newspapers are consistently targeting India over the Kashmir and human rights issues. There are clear indications of Chinese influence behind this, which has undermined the credibility of the US media.
