China upset over Indian media’s stance on Taiwan

New Delhi: – Indian government has accepted the One China Policy. The Chinese embassy has released a statement demanding that the Indian media too should respect the official policy of the country and stop mentioning Taiwan as a free country. Indian journalists and analysts are claiming that China has committed a blunder by instigating the Indian media on the Taiwan issue. As per the journalists, the Indian media will highlight the ‘Free Taiwan’ issue more aggressively, and that is when China will realise its mistake. At the same time, Taiwan, infuriated with the Chinese bullying, has told China to ‘Get Lost’.

Taiwan is celebrating its national day on Saturday, the 10th of October. On this occasion, Taiwan can be referred to as a free country in India. The Chinese communist party is grappled with fear that in this case, the intensity of the agitations being held for free Taiwan, Tibet and Hong Kong will increase. Against this background, the Chinese Ambassador has indirectly issued a warning to India by publishing guidelines for the Indian media.

The Chinese Embassy demanded, ‘China is a unique country, and there is no other China. Therefore, the Indian media should align with the Indian government’s policy and stop referring to Taiwan as a free country, which is leading to the violation of the ‘One China Policy’. At the same time, Tsai Ing-wen should not be referred to as the President. This delivers an incorrect message to the ordinary people.’ Leading journalists and analysts criticised that making such a demand makes Chinese behaviour like a hoodlum and not like a superpower. Some of the analysts even accused that China is issuing a veiled warning to India through the letter demanding restraint by the Indian media.

The Taiwanese foreign ministry has given a strong reply to these Chinese attempts to impose ‘censorship’ on Indian media. Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu stated, ‘India is the largest democracy. The media there love their freedom of expression. But China, with the communist ideology, seems to be imposing censorship in the Indian subcontinent. ‘Get Lost’ is the only answer China can expect from the Indian friends of Taiwan.”
