China is restless as India does not mention One China Policy while tensions are rising between the two nations

New Delhi: Taiwan has thanked India for its balanced response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. It had said that no one should take unilateral action on the issue of Taiwan and disturb regional peace. India’s reaction was a response to China, which threatened to take military action against Taiwan. At the same time, while talking about the issue of Taiwan, India had carefully avoided mentioning the ‘One China Policy’. This is reflected in Taiwanese gratitude.

China is restless as India does not mention One China Policy while tensions are rising between the two nationsAccording to the Chinese ‘One China Policy’, Taiwan is a sovereign territory of China. Almost all countries, including the United States, supported the ‘One China Policy’. The international community is making China aware that this does not mean China can take control of Taiwan using military force. This message is being given to China through the visit of Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. After Pelosi, there are claims that some other US leaders are preparing to visit Taiwan. The European Union has taken a firm stand in support of Taiwan and against China in this regard.

In such a situation, the importance of India’s role regarding Taiwan has increased. The tension between India and China has increased over the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh and there is a significant increase in China’s anti-India activities from the Indian Ocean region to the Himalayas. Therefore, India had signalled to start reconsidering the One China policy, which it has supported so far. Even while talking about the issue of Taiwan, India consciously avoided mentioning the One China policy. Analysts say that this is a warning given by India to China.

Moreover, strategic analysts say that considering China’s CPEC project passing through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and China’s claim on Arunachal Pradesh. There is no reason for India to no longer adhere to the One China policy. That is why there are indications that the position adopted by India on the Taiwan issue has upset China.

On Saturday, the Chinese Ambassador to India, Sun Weidong, said that the One China Policy is the foundation of diplomatic relations between India and China. The Chinese ambassador also reminded that India was the first country to support the One China policy. Even now, the Chinese ambassador has urged India to support the One China policy. However, India is unlikely to pay heed to this Chinese demand, which has repeatedly challenged India’s sovereignty and security. At the same time, there are clear indications that India will continue to make conscious efforts to develop relations with Taiwan.
