On 1st February, the Myanmar military seized power and imposed emergency for one year. But it has been exposed that the military took this decision of revolt just because of Aung San Syu Ki’s party’s thumping victory in last year’s election. It has also been exposed that there is a Chinese hand behind the revolt. Therefore, China is trying to protect the Myanmar military.

In the UN Security Council meeting, the Chinese representative announced that it would oppose any strong action against the Myanmar military. Whereas, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said that China would not support any action that can fester the situation in Myanmar. Myanmar military is pro-China. Earlier as well, the Myanmar army could keep power in their hands only due to Chinese support. Therefore, it is considered natural that China is supporting this revolt. Japan has already pointed out that this increases the threat of Myanmar going under Chinese domination. Japanese Foreign Minister and Defence Minister have made the world aware of this impending crisis. During discussions with British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab and Defence Minister Ben Wallace, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Defence Minister Nobuo Kishi expressed serious concerns over the situation in Myanmar. Despite all this, there has been no expected reaction from the United States regarding the Myanmar revolt. When the democracy in Myanmar is under threat, the United States has done nothing more than just threatening to impose sanctions.

Biden administration is watching the situation in Myanmar. The Biden administration is in contact with the US allies India and Japan, are the equivocal statements made by the US State Department. The Biden administration had threatened to impose sanctions on Myanmar. But no concrete action has been taken by the United States in this regard, to pressurise the Myanmar military.

US analysts are claiming that the intrusion into the Taiwanese airspace by the Chinese aircraft, is to test the Biden administration’s reaction. Indications are that China has tested the Biden administration again, by manoeuvring a revolt in Myanmar, to overthrow the elected government. But, at least now, the Biden administration has not taken serious cognisance of the matter. Therefore, China will get the opportunity to dominate Myanmar, which is the very concern expressed by Japan.
