India is dependent on the United States for the supplies of raw materials required for the Corona vaccines. But the Biden administration decided to stop these supplies. The intentions of the Biden administration are becoming clear now. The number of Corona patients is increasing by nearly 350,000 per day in India. In this scenario, India has initiated the vaccination campaign on an extensive scale in an attempt to contain the pandemic. But the process of vaccine manufacture is being hampered due to non-cooperation by the Biden administration. Pointing to this, India had appealed to the Biden administration to start the supply of raw materials. Foreign Minister Jaishankar even held discussions with US Secretary of State Blinken regarding the matter. But the Biden administration refused to cooperate. The Biden administration forwarded the reason that the internal requirements of the United States have to be looked into first.

The United States has nearly 40 million Corona Vaccine doses. There is no immediate need for new vaccine doses. The US lawmakers, statesmen, analysts, and non-resident Indians said that it is not prudent to stop the supply of raw materials in this situation. The US industry sector also had registered its displeasure with the Biden administration. Jeff Smith, a researcher at the US Heritage Foundation, reminded that in 2020, while the Coronavirus pandemic was spreading in dangerous proportions, India had supplied the requisite quantities of Hydroxychloroquine, made in India, to the United States. Smith drew attention to the fact that the Indian government exported the drug to the United States, despite the criticism coming from inside the country. Smith warned the Biden administration that it becomes the United States’ responsibility to provide the necessary assistance to India when it is facing the crisis.

While the pressure was mounting on the Biden administration, the Indian Foreign Minister issued a stern warning to the Biden administration through his reaction in a social media post. Foreign Minister Jaishankar said in his social media post that it is better to act than only speak about multilateralism. President Biden and his administration consistently speak about promoting liberalism and multilateralism, meaning prioritising progress also of other countries and the United States. But in reality, their policies are the opposite. Jaishankar pointed to this contradiction. Jaishankar also indicated that bilateral relations might also be affected if the United States did not provide this assistance.

The effects of this are already visible, and the US Secretary of State has agreed to cooperate with India on this front, expressing concerns over the rapid spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in India. But it is being consistently warned on social media that we Indians will not forget the delay in the US cooperation. Indian media is making crushing criticism on the selfish policies of the Biden administration. Simultaneously, serious allegations that the Biden administration is taking inhuman decisions of affecting vaccine production in India, only for the benefit of the US pharma companies, are being circulated. The Corona vaccine manufacturers want to supply the vaccine to India at high rates. Also, the vaccines provided by India to the developing countries is seen by these profit-hungry US pharma companies as a crisis for their business.

Therefore, the lobby of these companies was forcing the Biden administration to take these decisions against India. But the analysts are warning that the United States will have to face severe consequences if the Biden administration took this suicidal decision for a particular benefit. The analysts have emphasised that the Biden administration will not be able to distance itself from the consequences.
