Australia should be prepared for war in the next 3 years – military analysts warn

Sydney: There has been a significant increase in China’s military expansion, aggression against Taiwan, illegal activities in the South China Sea, and movements in the South Pacific region. Considering these factors, Australian military analysts have suggested their government change the military doctrine and be prepared for war in the next three years.

Australia should be prepared for war in the next 3 years - military analysts warnA few days back, Australia’s former defence head, Stephen Smith and former Air force head Angus Houston jointly prepared a Strategic Defence report which recommends that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese consider a paradigm shift in the current defence policy by march next year to counter the threat from China.

Moreover, the report suggests that currently, Australia is unsecured as never before. Other Australian military analysts have supported the report of Angus and Smith. Another military analyst, Dr Alan Dupont, has suggested that considering the threat, Australia needs to prepare for war not in ten years but in the coming three to five years, including drones and cyber wars.

Dr Alan Dupont said that to date, the US used to lead in a war situation and Australia provided the support. However, this has now changed. He further noted that since the US badly needs Australia in the Asia Pacific region, Australia needs to seize the advantage. He also recommended that Australia should not depend on the US alone but should increase military cooperation with Japan and South Korea.

Meanwhile, as the Albanese government is trying to improve cooperation with China, the former military heads and analysts are warning the government of the threats from China.
