Apple shifted 8 factories from China to India: IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

New Delhi: – Union Minister for Information Technology Ravishankar Prasad stated, ‘India is emerging as the global manufacturing hub. For the first time, the international community has realised that there has to be an alternative for China for the benefit of the Global Manufacturing Ecosystem. Therefore, everyone is expectantly looking at India.’ Ravi Shankar Prasad pointed out that eight manufacturing facilities of Apple have been moved to India from China.

Ravi Shankar Prasad talked to the non-resident Indians from Bihar via videoconferencing. At this time, he spoke about the changing Indian image on the international level. The aggressive stand adopted by India after the Chinese aggression in Ladakh is receiving support from around the world. Countries like the United States, Japan and Australia have supported India. Ravi Shankar Prasad clarified that India would never compromise regarding the sovereignty and integrity of the country.   

The big corporates of the world are shifting their factories outside China. Ravi Shankar Prasad said that for the first time, the Global Manufacturing Ecosystem is feeling the need for other alternatives for China. Ravi Shankar Prasad said, ‘Many companies are coming out of China, and some of them have chosen India as their destination. Samsung was already manufacturing in India. But now, Samsung is increasing its spread in India. Eight Apple factories, manufacturing phones, also have been shifted to India from China. This proves that global manufacturing companies have realised the importance of the Indian marketplace.’  

In 2014, India had only two mobile phone manufacturing units. But now, the number of mobile phone manufacturing units has crossed 250. The Indian government launched the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign to provide an impetus to domestic manufacturing. Global companies have been invited to India. Atmanirbhar campaign does not mean isolating oneself. Ravi Shankar Prasad said that this means that India, being a leading economy of the world, is increasing its economic capacity to make the global economy more efficient.
