After Saudi Arabia, Bahrain opens airspace to Israel

Manama: Bahrain announced the opening of its airspace for the Israeli aircraft flying from Israel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Both Israel and UAE expressed gratitude that this Bahrain gesture of opening the airspace has reduced the flight distance between the two countries. Two days ago, Saudi Arabia opened its airspace for Israeli aeroplanes. The United States and Israel had welcomed the Saudi gesture. The Israeli media is claiming that with Saudi opening its airspace for Israeli planes, the path has been cleared for Israel for airstrikes on Iran.

Bahrain clarified that this decision was taken following a request from the UAE. Bahrain avoided naming Israel in the announcement. But aeroplanes from all the countries other than Israel were allowed to use Bahrain’s airspace. Therefore, it is being said that this announcement is only for Israel. Two days ago, Saudi too announced that its airspace was open for all countries, avoiding to name Israel directly. Satisfaction is being expressed that this Bahrain decision has brought down the travel time between Israel and UAE from 7 hours to 3 hours.

Last month, Israel and UAE signed a historic peace deal, and an Israeli delegation visited UAE against this background. Excepting UAE, no other Arab country, including Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, has signed such an agreement with Israel. But the Israeli media claimed that these historic decisions are indicating unannounced cooperation with Israel. A few days ago, Bahrain welcomed the new collaboration between Israel and the UAE. US and Israeli media had also claimed that Bahrain would soon be establishing cooperation with Israel.

Meanwhile, it is being claimed that the decision taken by Saudi and Bahrain to open their skies to Israel is very important. The Gulf media is pointing out that just like Israel, Iran is a common enemy for UAE, Saudi and Bahrain. A few years ago, Israel had warned of airstrikes to stop Iranian acquisition of nuclear weapons. Israeli analysts had even warned that Israel might use Syria-Iraq and even Jordan-Saudi airspaces for this purpose. Whereas, some military analysts from Europe too had claimed that Saudi would allow the use of its airspace for Israeli fighter jets for an attack on Iran.
