50 million User accounts on Facebook hacked

Third World WarWashington: It has been revealed that there was a cyber-attack on Facebook, known to be the largest ‘Social Networking Site’. In this cyber-attack, the hackers have penetrated the Facebook security and have gained entry into more than 50 million user accounts. The hacked accounts include those of Facebook Chief, Mark Zuckerberg and Chief Executive Officer, Sheryl Sandberg. Top officials at Facebook including Zuckerberg have accepted the breach of security. FBI is investigating the cyber attack.

Facebook informed about the cyber attack on Friday. The hackers group succeeded in gaining entry using the ‘view as’ facility. It is clarified that posts, photographs and Private messages of more than 50 million users have been exposed to this attack. It is also being said that the hackers must have attempted to get information like name, the city of residence and gender of the users.

50 million User accounts on Facebook hackedAs a safety precaution against the attack, Facebook has logged out 90 million users. To log in again, these users will have to use a special code provided by Facebook. Several users upset with this have also threatened to close their Facebook accounts. Severe reactions have emanated from the US Congress and the European agencies regarding this cyber attack on Facebook.

Senior US Senator, Mark Warner has claimed that the hacking of Facebook is a matter of grave concern and demanded a complete investigation into the attack. The European Union has expressed displeasure about the limited information provided. Only a couple of months ago, there was a storm raised when it was revealed that Facebook had handed over information about its more than 80 million users to a private research company. While Facebook is still being investigated for this matter, the incidence of cyberattack is a significant development.
