46 Coronavirus deaths in the country in one day, number of cases rise by 809 

New Delhi: On the 16th day of the lockdown, 46 Coronavirus patients died in the country and number of cases increased by 809, taking the total number of cases to 6,412. This has been the worst day for India since the onset of the pandemic. With this, the possibility of further spread of Coronavirus has become stronger. Although Tuesday is the last day of the lockdown, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be holding discussions with the state Chief Ministers before that. The decision will only be announced after the talks. Some state governments have already requested an extension of the lockdown.

Coronavirus spread seems to have intensified in India in the last one week. Till last Friday, the number of deaths in the country was only 56, and the number of cases was 2301. But over the previous seven days, the number of cases has increased by nearly 4,500, and the number of deaths has reached 199 from 56. A whopping 46 deaths were reported on Thursday alone, and the number of cases in the country has crossed the 6,000 mark. 

A maximum number of cases has been reported from the state of Maharashtra. 225 new cases were added on Thursday, and by Friday morning, there was a further addition of 26 new cases. This takes the total number of cases in Maharashtra to 1,390. Out of these, 60% of the cases are from Mumbai. The number of cases in the densely populated Dharavi has reached 22. Three new cases were reported even from Dadar. There are two nurses from Shushrusha Hospital among them. Despite the lockdown at some places, citizens are observed to be blatantly violating the rules. Some of the main vegetable markets are attracting large crowds. Therefore, the state government is contemplating the closure of these vegetable markets. The decision to close the vegetable market in Vashi from Saturday has been taken. 

There was an addition of 96 new cases in Tamil Nadu, taking the number of cases in this state too beyond 800. As of now, there are 834 cases of Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu. Offences have been registered against nearly 135,000 citizens for violating the lockdown and some people have even been arrested. Nearly 100, 000 vehicles have been seized. After Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, Delhi has the worst Coronavirus scene and the number of cases in Delhi has crossed 750. These are followed by Rajasthan with 489 cases, Madhya Pradesh with 440 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 429 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 365 cases and Gujarat with 308 cases. 

Meanwhile, Union Minister of Health, Dr Harsh Vardhan, held discussions with the State Health Ministers through videoconferencing. All the state governments are making efforts to contain the pandemic. Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the states have been instructed to ensure meticulous implementation of the lockdown. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold discussions with the state Chief Ministers on Saturday. The 21 days lockdown is ending on the 14th of April. Everyone’s attention is focussed on these discussions taking place before that.
