A few years ago, at a United Nations meeting, it was revealed that as many as 1.1 million Uyghurs were being held in camps by the Chinese communist regime. Since then, the international community has become increasingly aggressive against China over the Uyghurs issue. Four months ago, China was urged to access impartial observers and UN officials into Xinjiang at a UN Commission on Human Rights meeting in Geneva.

After that, the issue of Uyghurs was raised at the United Nations, once again. This year it’s the third time that China has been targeted on the Uyghurs issue on the UN platform. In May, the United Nations convened a meeting on the issue of atrocities against Uyghurs and other minorities in Xinjiang. A subsequent meeting in Geneva in June also slammed China over the issue of Uyghurs.

At this week’s meeting, 43 leading nations of the United Nations issued a statement drawing attention to China’s actions. These include some Asian countries, along with the United States and European countries. It claims that there is credible evidence that China has dumped the Uighurs in torture camps. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and officials from his office have also reiterated the demand for access to Xinjiang.

The incident at the United Nations has upset China, which has stated in response to cooperation from Cuba and some other countries. The statement claims that Xinjiang’s was China’s internal issue. At the same time, it was stated that the allegations against China were politically motivated. Chinese ambassador to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, also expressed displeasure, saying the allegations were unfounded and a conspiracy to jolt China.

In the last few years, more and more countries worldwide have been raising their voices against the ongoing actions by China in Xinjiang. Countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada have blamed that the atrocities against the Uyghurs are nothing but a genocide carried out by the Chinese communist regime. Similar efforts are being made even in other countries, and the Chinese government is in serious trouble.
