Anti-government protests have flared up in more than 100 Iranian cities, since the last five days. Once again, the Iranian people have taken to the streets to protest against the Rouhani-Khamenei government. The international organisations claimed that the Iranian government used the brute military force of Revolutionary Guards, Quds force and Basij army, to crush these protests. But as per the claims made by the Iranian military, the casualties were minimal.

200 killed during anti-government protests in Iran, concern expressed by UN human rights organisationHowever, as per the information published by the Amnesty International, 106 people have been killed in the action that began Friday. Amnesty International said that information regarding the other cities could not be received as the Iranian government has shut down the internet services whereas, the local sources informed that 200 people were killed and more than 3,000 were injured in the actions taken by the military against the protestors. Therefore, it is said that Iran is once again trying to hide the facts regarding the action against the protesters and the casualties, from the international media.

There was retaliation against the actions of the Iranian military at some places. Three soldiers were killed in the retaliatory attack by the protestors. Moreover, the protesters ransacked 100 banks and 57 shops and set them on fire. The Iranian military announced that they had arrested nearly 1,000 such rioters. But the Iranian leaders who have taken refuge in Europe criticised that the Iranian government is arresting its opponents under this pretext.

Meanwhile, there were slogans shouted against Iranian Supremo Ayatollah Khamenei and President Rouhani, during the protests. ‘Overthrow the Iranian government’, ‘We don’t want Islamic Iran’ were the slogans shouted at the demonstrations. Nevertheless, Iranian Supremo Khamenei has justified the fuel price hike. Khamenei also blamed the United States and its allies of conspiring to destabilise Iran with these protests.
